Tom Corn Joins Mazu Networks as Vice President of Marketing

14-Year Technology Veteran to Align Mazu's Product and Market Strategy with Security-related Business Needs; Also Will Spearhead Expansion of Company's Marketing Initiatives

Cambridge, Mass (June 16, 2003) - Mazu Networks, a leading provider of behavior-based intrusion protection systems, today announced that it has named Tom Corn as vice president of marketing. Corn’s charter is to ensure that Mazu’s product and market strategies for its enterprise-class network security solutions map directly to the pressing business requirements of corporate and government customers. In addition to setting strategy, Corn will oversee all day-to-day marketing activities at Mazu, including product management and outbound marketing.

“Tom has great experience in growing new businesses and focusing product and marketing strategy around real business problems” said Jim Melvin, Mazu Networks’ president and CEO. “Mission-critical business processes are more dependent on the network infrastructure than ever before. That means that network security discussions are taking place not only in IT shops, but also in boardrooms. Tom will help Mazu make certain that the value of our solutions is equally evident to the technology and business leaders in our customer organizations.”

Corn brings more than 14 years of product management and marketing experience to his new position. Prior to joining Mazu, he was vice president of marketing and strategy at NextNine, a developer of process automation software for network infrastructure. There he played a key role in raising $20 million in funding, productizing the technology and building the company's initial customer base. Prior to NextNine, Corn was director of marketing at Avid Technology, where he ran product marketing and product management for Avid’s professional editing solutions business unit. Earlier in his career, he held various positions at AICorp and Accenture. Corn holds an MBA from Harvard University and a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo.

“Mazu today has an outstanding management team, a world-class development staff, incredible technology and premier customer accounts,” said Corn. “In short, it is a company poised for great success. In my view, strategic marketing combined with aggressive implementation is the catalyst ? the final puzzle piece required to propel Mazu to tremendous success in existing and new markets. I will use my skills and experience to the fullest to help ensure Mazu achieves this success.”
