Leverages existing infrastructure and traffic flow measurement technology to deliver network intelligence for improved security, operations and planning
Cambridge, Mass (June 24, 2003) - Mazu Networks, a leading provider of behavior-based intrusion protection systems, today announced that it has enhanced its PowerSecure Profiler solution to support the intake of NetFlow data. By enabling its products to accept this prevalent form of network traffic data, Mazu is helping its customers to further leverage their existing network infrastructures to make mission-critical enterprise processes, data and services more secure and efficient.
Mazu’s Profiler solution, now in its second generation, has advanced statistical analytics and heuristics that transform traffic and connection data into real-time, actionable network intelligence. Network and security professionals can use this intelligence to improve and streamline a range of enterprise initiatives, including intrusion protection, dynamic policy definition and auditing, network segmentation and server consolidation.
NetFlow is an interface standard to popular routers that collects and measures network traffic data as it enters specific routers or switches. NetFlow allows highly granular and accurate traffic measurements and high-level aggregated traffic collection. It enables network professionals to characterize traffic and account for how and where it flows. Network engineering managers have traditionally used NetFlow for problem-solving tasks, such as identifying and resolving network congestion points. Network operations professionals use NetFlow primarily as the metering base for applications such as service-level verification, usage-based billing and network planning.
By tapping NetFlow data to fuel its real-time traffic profiling engine, Mazu now offers new and more effective ways to secure and optimize an organization’s critical business services, processes and data. Mazu’s NetFlow support enables customers to use their existing network infrastructure components ? specifically their routers and switches ? to add these new capabilities affordably and without disrupting ongoing operations. These new services fall into two main categories: active, intelligent security measures for enhanced network protection; and new business-process views of the network that drive significant efficiencies in various network operations projects.
“The fact that NetFlow data is available on popular networking gear from Cisco, Juniper and others makes it the predominant source of traffic data on the market,” said Eric Ogren, the Yankee Group’s senior analyst, Security Solutions & Services. “It clearly makes sense for other companies to leverage this existing resource to deliver new security functionality - at a lower cost and with less disruption - throughout the enterprise.”
“Enterprise and government accounts are not going to rebuild or re-instrument their networks in order to accomplish these objectives,” said Jim Melvin, Mazu Networks’ president and CEO. “These organizations have made significant investments in their network infrastructures, and they expect to be able to operate those networks securely and efficiently. By consuming existing network traffic information, PowerSecure gives customers unprecedented visibility and control over their network-based assets.”
PowerSecure - the Best in Intrusion Protection
Mazu’s PowerSecure? solutions use powerful, real-time statistical traffic analysis and connection-based traffic modeling to detect and characterize malicious activities occurring anywhere on a network. PowerSecure solutions also enable customers to achieve entirely new levels of efficiency in their ongoing network and security operations projects.
Based on the ability to analyze detailed network traffic data in real time, Mazu’s solutions enable companies to implement behavioral threat protection -- with equally effective security for the core and perimeter computing assets in the network. Mazu’s solutions complement other security products, such as anti-virus programs, firewalls and intrusion detection systems. They enable organizations to lower the cost of operating a secure network, and significantly reduce vulnerabilities of their critical business processes.
PowerSecure solutions with NetFlow support will be available from Mazu in the late summer timeframe.
