Mazu Networks Selects Booz Allen Hamilton for Common Criteria Testing

Global leader in management and technology consulting to conduct NIAP certification of Mazu's network security solutions

Cambridge, Mass (November 24, 2003) - Mazu Networks, a leading provider of behavioral network security solutions, today announced that it has selected Booz Allen Hamilton to conduct Common Criteria testing. Booz Allen's lab has begun the process of obtaining National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) certification for Mazu's two main products, the Mazu Profiler™ and the Mazu Enforcer™. Mazu's solutions are designed to protect the mission-critical applications and services that run on the networks of government agencies and major corporations.

Booz Allen is a global leader in management and technology consulting. The company provides services to major international corporations and government clients around the world. Booz Allen, which operates one of only eight NIAP-approved Common Criteria Testing Labs (CCTLs), will perform the documentation review and testing leading to Government certification of Mazu's products.

"The work done by our CCTL staff members helps meet the needs of federal government agencies for cost-effective evaluation of security-related IT products," said Joe Mahaffee, Booz Allen vice president and officer in charge of the CCTL. "By ensuring that these evaluations are performed to consistent standards, we help federal agencies make efficient and informed decisions about the products they use to strengthen the security of their key networks and systems."

"Mazu is pursuing NIAP Common Criteria validation in response to the significant demand we are seeing from government agencies for our network security solutions," said Jim Melvin, president and CEO of Mazu Networks. "Federal agencies need more intelligent and effective ways to protect their networks from threats ranging from new worms and viruses to unauthorized access. Mazu's unique traffic profiling technology enables government security teams to identify, contain, and thwart security threats with greater speed and accuracy than any other product on the market. This testing is an important step toward putting Mazu's advanced security solutions to work protecting the government's network assets and by extension, the nation's critical information infrastructure."

Common Criteria (CC) testing is an international program for the evaluation of the security capabilities of information technology products. It sets forth standards for validating the security claims made by developers of IT security products. These standards contain a broad range of evaluation criteria for commercial IT products intended for government use. CC evaluations require rigorous, independent assessment and testing of all security aspects of a product, including development processes, implementation, and documentation. NIAP oversees CC testing and validation in the U.S. within the framework of its Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS). NIAP is a collaborative project of the National Security Agency (NSA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
