Existing venture investors Greylock, Matrix Partners, Pilot House Ventures, and StarVest Partners also participate in round
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (December 13, 2004) — Mazu Networks, the leading provider of network-wide intrusion prevention systems for the enterprise, today announced the closing of its Series C round of funding. The new round, which totaled $12 million, included participation by Symantec Corporation as a new strategic investor in Mazu. Also participating in the Series C round were Mazu's existing venture investors, including Greylock, Matrix Partners, Pilot House Ventures and StarVest Partners. The new round brings the total equity investment in Mazu Networks to $35 million. Mazu will use the new investment to build on its already strong market traction by rapidly expanding its sales and marketing efforts and accelerating product development, channel initiatives, and technology partnerships.
"We are very pleased to have Symantec as a strategic investor," said Don Casey, Mazu Networks' Chairman and CEO. "Their team realizes that products designed to protect internal networks are creating an important new category of information security solutions. Their investment, as well as those made by our existing investors, is a real vote of confidence in the Mazu team and our growth potential. We very much look forward to working more closely with the Symantec team."
Mazu Profiler, now in its fifth generation, is a network-wide intrusion prevention solution. It protects critical services inside enterprise and government networks against worms and insider threats, reducing business disruption, regulatory exposure and drain on critical IT resources. Mazu Profiler enables organizations to monitor exactly how their networks are being used and by whom. It leverages existing infrastructure to detect and mitigate new attacks with surgical precision, harden networks against future attacks, and monitor usage of network assets and services.
The Mazu Enforcer is designed to protect the network at its perimeter by detecting, characterizing, and mitigating traffic-based attacks with speed and precision. The Mazu Enforcer watches for network congestion that is caused by traffic-based threats, such as denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. When the Mazu Enforcer detects an attack, it uses advanced heuristics to quickly identify the malicious packets, and then filter out the attack traffic while minimizing the impact on legitimate traffic. The Enforcer also can dynamically adapt its filtering behavior as an attack progresses.
