CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - January 9, 2006
Tom Corn, vice president of marketing and strategy, Mazu Networks, Inc., the leading provider of behavior-based network security solutions.
David Dekker, principle network engineer and Vincent Yip, security architect, both from Pepco, a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: POM), one of the largest energy delivery companies in the Mid-Atlantic region, serving about 1.8 million customers in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia. PHI subsidiaries Pepco, Delmarva Power and Atlantic City Electric provide regulated electricity service; Delmarva Power also provides natural gas service. PHI provides competitive wholesale generation services through Conectiv Energy and retail energy products and services through Pepco Energy Services.
During the Homeland Security for Networked Industries (HSNI) 2006 Conference and Expo, Corn, Dekker and Yip will host a discussion on the internal network security threat. The presentation, titled "The Evolving Network Demands Improved Security," will focus on the growing number of worms and insider attacks wreaking havoc on internal systems. The increase in threats is causing an important shift in information security from securing the network perimeter to securing the internal network. Driving this trend are the fundamental changes in how networks are used, the growing frequency and sophistication of attacks and the avenues available to bypass perimeter security appliances.
The presentation will discuss the findings of a research study conducted by Mazu Networks and Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) regarding the impact of worms and internal threats on 229 enterprises. The discussion will also delve into how some of the industry's leading organizations are addressing this issue and offer attendees practical advice on how to safeguard critical internal assets.
Over 300 security individuals are expected to attend HSNI 2006. Attendees are from the three major networked industries - telecom, utilities and transportation - whose sensitive network infrastructures provide the backbone for the U.S.
