CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - February 7, 2006 - Mazu Networks, the leading provider of behavior-based network security solutions, today announced the closing of $7 million in its acceleration round. In addition to continued support from Symantec, existing backers including Greylock Partners, Matrix Partners, Pilot House Ventures and StarVest Partners also participated in the funding. Mazu Networks will use the new investment to extend its market leadership position by expanding sales, engineering and marketing efforts, accelerating product development and advancing channel initiatives and technology partnerships.
"During 2005, Mazu Networks achieved record revenues, a dramatic increase in enterprise customers, continued sales pipeline growth and technology advancements that extended our competitive lead. These achievements have placed Mazu Networks in a prime position to scale the company and continue to dominate the enterprise market," said Paul Brady, CEO, Mazu Networks. "With the funding from top industry venture capitalists, Mazu Networks can make the investments needed to further establish the company as the indisputable leader in the behavior-based network security space."
The investments from Symantec, Greylock Partners, Matrix Partners, Pilot House Ventures and StarVest Partners follow on the heels of tremendous company growth in both revenue and installed base. "As the driving force behind the new NBA category, it is clear that Mazu Networks has both the ability to build great technology, but also build a market. We are proud to continue our support of Mazu Networks as well as share the company's successes with its impressive roster of top industry venture capitalists."
Mazu Profiler, a Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) system, analyzes network traffic and behavior to provide enterprises with the intelligence required to operate internal networks more securely. By examining all internal traffic and analyzing anomalous behavior, Mazu Profiler provides security and network teams with: visibility into how the network is used; protection from worms and insider breaches and the ability to audit and enforce internal controls.
Mazu Enforcer, a perimeter security solution, detects and mitigates denial-of-service (DoS) attacks by detecting, characterizing and mitigating traffic-based attacks with speed and precision. When Mazu Enforcer detects an attack, it uses advanced heuristics to quickly identify the malicious packets, and then filter out the attack traffic while minimizing the impact on legitimate traffic. Mazu Enforcer can also dynamically adapt its filtering behavior as an attack progresses.
