Mazu Networks Wins Deal with Catholic Health Care System

Mazu Profiler™ Selected to Protect the Largest Nursing Home System in New York State

RSA CONFERENCE, SAN JOSE, CALIF. and CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - February 14, 2006 - Mazu Networks, the leading provider of behavior-based network security solutions, today announced that the Catholic Health Care System, an organization of nursing homes and affiliated health care providers sponsored by the Archdiocese of New York, selected Mazu Profiler™ to gain increased visibility and improved protection of its complex, highly interconnected network. Mazu Profiler will also aid the Catholic Health Care System in contending with growing regulatory demands to comply with the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Mazu Profiler analyzes network traffic and behavior to provide organizations with the intelligence required to operate internal networks more securely. By examining all internal traffic and analyzing anomalous behavior, Mazu Profiler provides security, network and audit teams with: visibility into how the network is used; protection from worms and insider breaches and compliance assistance through the audit and enforcement of internal controls.

"With a health care system comprising more than seven nursing homes, we needed a security technology that could provide visibility into the activity occurring across our expansive network," said Justin A. Salandra, network and technology services manager, Catholic Health Care System. "Mazu Profiler provides a level of visibility and intelligence that empowers us to rationally respond to real threats. Further, HIPAA continues to be a major concern for health care organizations and as the regulation requirements become stricter, the time and attention needed to achieve and maintain compliance has the potential to strain our security resources. We believe that with Mazu Profiler's reporting capabilities and log storage, we will be able to effectively respond."

For health care institutions, the internal facing systems provide the most critical services. Understanding what is normal vs. abnormal traffic is critical to addressing today's health care security issues. Mazu Profiler enables the Catholic Health Care System to gain the needed visibility into how systems and services on its internal network are being used and by whom. Further, Mazu Profiler reduces the burden and cost of security and compliance efforts. The product's ability to store and report on historical connections to all systems in the network reduces the labor associated with providing a chain-of-evidence for regulatory compliance demands.

"In health care institutions, Mazu Profiler has shown a 99 percent reduction in false alerts as compared to traditional security technology," said Paul Brady, CEO, Mazu Networks. "As such, Mazu Profiler enables the security teams within the Catholic Health Care System to catch zero day outbreaks, unauthorized reconnaissance and insider security breaches, while reducing the disruption of critical network services and applications."

The Catholic Health Care System comprises institutions including the Carmel Richmond Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ferncliff Nursing Home, Kateri Residence, Mary Manning Walsh Home, Saint Teresa's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, St. Vincent de Paul Residence and the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center.

"Today's complex networks demand protection at the internal network layer in addition to the perimeter and endpoint" said Jaimin Shah, president, Probe Systems, a complete IT solutions and services provider. "With Mazu Profiler in our portfolio of security products we can now provide customers with a complete security solution that protects the integrity of their network through defenses at every point of entry. We are proud to be a part of bringing that level of protection to the Catholic Health Care System."

In addition to the Catholic Health Care System, Mazu Profiler is currently protecting more than six of the largest health care organizations in North America. Mazu Profiler was also recently named a finalist for SC Magazine's Excellence Awards in the Best Security Solution for Health Care category.
