Mazu Networks and Rapid7 Announce Technology Alliance

Partnership Integrates Mazu Profiler with Rapid7's NeXpose to Provide Customers with More Actionable Alert Information to Accelerate Remediation Process

RSA CONFERENCE, SAN JOSE, CALIF. and CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - February 14, 2006 - Mazu Networks, the leading provider of behavior-based network security solutions, and Rapid 7, a provider of enterprise vulnerability management solutions, today announced a technology alliance that will integrate Mazu Profiler™, a Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) system, with NeXpose®, Rapid7's vulnerability management and risk assessment software. Together the technologies will enable a faster and more accurate response to security threats by providing enterprises with access to both extensive network visibility and protection through Mazu Profiler and accurate and timely vulnerability data via NeXpose.

There is a growing market need for integrated technologies that can address increasingly complex network security threats. With a combined NBA and vulnerability management solution, customers gain more actionable information in alerts to accelerate the remediation process. This functionality enables customers to characterize the hosts involved and provide visibility into the vulnerabilities that caused the event, thereby enabling faster corrective actions.

"The growing complexity of enterprise networks and the increasing sophistication of attacks have turned securing our infrastructure into an on-going challenge," said David Olbrys, global infrastructure security coordinator at Cabot Corporation. "The integration of Mazu Profiler and NeXpose enables us to achieve a true layered defense through solid protection at the network perimeter and interior. As such, through Cabot's regimented defense-in-depth approach we can respond efficiently and effectively to potential threats."

The integration of these two technologies will allow customers to initiate vulnerability scans with Rapid7's NeXpose in response to suspicious network activity discovered by Mazu Profiler. As a result, customers will be able to: maintain an accurate and timely vulnerability database without continuous wide-scale scanning; scan hosts involved in suspicious or unusual activity in real-time; obtain more detailed vulnerability reporting; and use combined traffic behavior from Mazu Profiler and vulnerability data from NeXpose to identify unused, yet open, server ports.

"Through the Mazu Profiler and NeXpose integration, customers gain context-triggered scanning as well as more detailed, timely and serviceable vulnerability intelligence," said Alan Mathews, president and CEO, Rapid7. "The extended value of combining behavior-based technology and vulnerability management systems enables customers of both Mazu Networks and Rapid 7 to dramatically improve their security defense."

Mazu Profiler version 6.0 introduced technology that enables the product to seamlessly integrate with leading vulnerability management solutions such as NeXpose. As such, Mazu Networks can provide its customers with a complete solution to address the risks and vulnerabilities inside their corporate networks.

"Through the integration of Mazu Profiler and NeXpose, customers will be armed with the intelligence needed to respond to network threats faster and more effectively. Because the combined solution enables much more intelligent scanning, customers can now have a constantly up-to-date picture of network vulnerabilities without burdening the network infrastructure," said Joe Gately, vice president of channels and alliances. "Consequently, customers will have access to more current, relevant and useful network vulnerability data, which will dramatically improve their response rate and accuracy."

Mazu Profiler

Mazu Profiler analyzes network traffic and behavior to provide enterprises with the intelligence required to operate internal networks more securely. By examining all internal traffic and analyzing anomalous behavior, Mazu Profiler provides security, network and audit teams with: visibility into how the network is used; protection from worms and insider breaches and compliance assistance through the audit and enforcement of internal controls.

NeXpose

NeXpose enterprise vulnerability management scans devices, systems, software and Web server applications to locate threats, assess their risk to the environment, devise a remediation plan and implement the ticketing process. With its expert system, NeXpose builds a knowledge base of facts on the environment it's exploring and models potential targeted attacks to expose all existing threats. NeXpose provides reporting capabilities that ensure compliance with governmental regulations and corporate security configuration policies.

Availability

Mazu Profiler is available through Mazu Networks' sales channels. The NeXpose and Mazu Profiler integration will be available in the summer of 2006 to enterprise and government customers.
