Kaplan to present “Network Behavior Analysis Systems: The New Foundation of Defense-in-Depth” during Interop New York (www.interop.com), which will take place on September 18-22, 2006. The presentation will focus on the impact of the growing internal network threat and the current shortcomings of traditional defense-in-depth security architectures. Most organizations today lack protection at the internal network layer, which places critical data and services at risk. Attendees will gain insight into how they can improve their organization’s defense-in-depth security strategies by adding protection at every point of entry, including the perimeter, endpoint and the internal network layer.

Charles Kaplan, chief security strategist, Mazu Networks
As chief security strategist at Mazu Networks, Charles Kaplan provides strategic guidance and support for the company’s engineering, marketing and sales teams. Drawing from 15 years of information security experience, and participation in developing the security programs at more than 1,000 companies, Kaplan is a recognized expert at architecting, implementing, maintaining and managing effective and balanced security programs.
Previously, Kaplan was the chief information security officer for VeriSign Managed Security Services (MSS), where he served as a thought leader, strategist and evangelist for the organization. Prior to joining VeriSign, Kaplan founded and led norSEC, a highly successful pioneer in the now established Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) space. Kaplan also co-founded and served as CTO for Xevo, a fast-growing Internet software company devoted to the Application Service Provider industry, and co-founded and served as lead consultant at Ingress where he serviced numerous Fortune firms and government agencies, including DuPont, Marconi, Prudential Securities, The Bureau of Prisons, and The Department of Health and Human Services.
Kaplan has been frequently quoted in the press and has been a noted speaker for numerous events and audiences, including IS Associates, Community Jewish Philanthropists, TechTarget, UNIX Expo, Internet Expo, Internet World, the Pentagon, the FBI and universities. He also served as a content editor for O’Reilly & Associates, and had work published by IDG books. Kaplan’s frequent speeches and articles focus on Internet and network security, threat definition and protection, firewalls and security by design.
