Mazu Networks Named a Leader in Yankee Group Report

Research Identifies Network Behavior Analysis Systems as a "Powerhouse for Providing Context into Other Network and Security Solutions"

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - December 1, 2006 - Mazu Networks, the leading provider of Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) systems, today announced that Yankee named the company a leader in its research report titled, "NBA Finds its True Calling by Adding Intelligence to Management and Monitoring Tools.(1)" The research champions the integration of NBA systems with management tools such as network management systems (NMS), security event management (SEM) and vulnerability management (VM), stating that NBA systems are a “powerhouse for providing context into other current network and security solutions."

The Yankee Group classifies vendors in this space as Behavior-Enhanced Management and Monitoring and places Mazu Networks in the sub-category of Best-of-Breed Multi-product Integration. The report explains that products within this category can provide the strongest NBA functionality and use strategic partnerships to offer solutions that integrate industry leading technologies to address the gamut of network operations and internal security challenges.

"By pulling in Active Directory identity information, application names instead of port numbers and routing topology, Mazu Profiler can quickly show what is happening across the network. An API makes this data exportable to third-party tools and customer portals," said Chris Liebert, report author and senior analyst, Security Solutions and Services, Yankee Group. "Any of the leading NBA options can send events for correlation to most leading SEMs. However, what makes Mazu Profiler unique in this regard is the product’s API which allows a SEM to pull contextual reports about network behavior directly into their products."

The report also notes Mazu Networks’ impressive roster of partnerships with leading SEM, NMS and VM players, which provides customers with a selection of interoperable products to help speed incident response for network operations and security issues. As such, Mazu Profiler proves to be a critical tool in bridging the gap between network operations and internal security by providing clear benefits to both operation and security teams in the following ways:

Internal Security

Network Operations

"Customers continue to tell us that they are experiencing value in both network operations and internal security from Mazu Profiler and that our product is allowing them to run a more secure and effective business," said Paul Brady, CEO, Mazu Networks. "We are thrilled to be named a leader in the Yankee Group’s report as it demonstrates the market's growing awareness of the benefits NBA systems can provide to both security and operations teams."

Mazu Profiler

Mazu Profiler is a Network Behavior Analysis (NBA) system that provides global visibility into how users, applications, hosts and devices behave on a network. Users immediately understand who is talking to whom, what applications and services are running, where the traffic is flowing, and when. Mazu Profiler collects this information from across any or all parts of the network using a passive, agent-less deployment model and stores the information in a centralized repository. This holistic view improves planning, management and operations while also dramatically reducing the time to diagnose network or security issues. Mazu Profiler notifies users of abnormal network behavior or activities that violate policies by combining Mazu Networks' patented behavioral analysis with real-time data, historical details and self-maintaining profiles. Mazu Profiler improves internal security, optimizes network operations and increases application availability.
